Right-angle headlights are cool and have their place, but in my opinion, I think a T-shaped headlight like the Fenix ​​HM70R is better suited for a dedicated headlight. Right angle headlights are good general purpose lights.

Fenix ​​HM71R UI: User Interface and Drivers

I especially like that the Floodlight mode can be accessed externally with a double click. my only complaintis that you are not getting mode memory for function mode.It is only available in Spotlight mode. This is a bit annoying, as I found the high setting in the function mode to be very useful, the beam was fine, and the tone at the highest CRI was fine.

Also, for low-light use, clicking the low mode of the main LED in the dark can be very annoying. A red LED is a better choice. LVP appears here, andLED indicators should only be available when using batteries provided by Fenix, but I'm sure LVP is built into the driver. Fenix ​​HM71R Charging and Battery

The HM71R uses a single 21700 lithium-ion battery, while the Fenix ​​includes an ARB-L21-5000 21700 battery with its light. Although there are many lights with 18650 specifications, it is rare for us to use this kind of battery in the wild. It has a much larger capacity than the 18650, 30% more capacity than the highest capacity 18650, and they can handle higher current loads for longer periods of time. The tradeoff is the greater size and weight, but it's not that far off the 18650 Cyansky HS6R size and well worth the extra run time.

The output specs are pretty good for the Fenix's numbers, that's what I expect from them, and as always, you can rely on the Fenix's output specs. The ratio of the flood LEDs is a bit higher than the spot LEDs, which is typical for my sphere, which prefers flood lights to bounce lights. The Turbo Spot LED's 2500 lumens are pretty impressive! This is by far the highest output I've seen in a headlight, and it's more than enough for just about any task. Even after 10 minutes, maintaining nearly 1000 lumens is equally impressive.

Again, typical Fenix ​​runs here, everything looks pretty close to factory specs...except for the Alto in spotlight mode, which went into ANSI 4 hours 27 minutes and 4 hours 38 on the first test run minutes to shut down. what is that? Spotlight high mode must have had a rough day at the office because it shuts off more than 3 hours early. I ran the test again and pretty much repeated it, which is very unusual for Fenix ​​as they use the same battery for their lab tests.

The lamp's driver is finely tuned and compatible with LEDs. There is an optimal adjustment for each lighting mode. The temperature is also well controlled. Even on the Turbo, the LED floodlight draws 10 amps and the lamp head tops out at 45C and never went above that during the entire run. Except for the high spotlight mode, none of the other modes exceed 50 C, so even if you're using the HM71R handheld, it's still comfortable to keep the output high for long periods of time. Even on Turbo, you can get over 1000 lumens over 4 minutes and almost 1000 lumens over 7 minutes. Spotlight mode is also well adjusted. All good things. The LVP works fine, the output gets too low and eventually shuts off. After each test the light was operational with a low output and the battery showed 2.93 volts after each run.

These are good numbers and are in line with the Fenix's beam distance numbers. Turbo numbers are slightly below advertised candela, and output dips slightly at the 30-second mark. Still, it's about what I've come to expect from this type of headlight, and it's far enough away for just about any task. I'm not getting 5m readings from the Spotlight's Read and Low modes.

For some reason the high mode of the flood LED run time is too low, and my new test nearly doubled it, so I'm not sure what's going on there. The HM71R does a lot of things well. It can be used both as a headlight and as a utility light. This is a very useful and surprisingly portable general purpose handheld flashlight. I like the quick-release headband assembly, and the (albeit brief) 2500 lumens on the Turbo aren't bad either. Fenix ​​continues to deliver exceptional build quality, fit and finish. The fact that you can bring your own 21700 is another advantage when other companies in this price range take battery ownership. Overall, I think this is a great headlamp/torch. It's durable enough to withstand abuse and use. If you like straight headlights and have the budget, I recommend picking one up. HM71R 4.5 stars.
